Rånäs works is the southernmost Walloon forge in Uppland. Counts, barons, and free lords have resided at Rånäs. The Oxenstierna, Stenbock, Reuterskiöld, and other families have ruled here since the 14th century.
Grain was grown in the fields around the works, charcoal was produced in the extensive forests, and the worker families who gained employment at the works lived in the rows of workers’ houses—a job that was considered a lifelong provision.
